Raising Awareness Regarding Gender-Based Violence

These posters were created by Creative Contracts, a small Cape Town based social enterprise who create visual materials for vulnerable people. It was commissioned by a large wine farm in the Cape Winelands who wanted to address GBV within their workforce. With such a diverse workforce, it was necessary to include the three most prominent languages used on the farm to ensure everyone could understand the posters. However, the images are the focus here and the aim is to shed light on such a prolific issue in South Africa. These illustrations really help to provide visual examples of what GBV can look like, but also how it can feel, through the use of strong colour pallets that mirror the emotions felt in each frame. We also wanted to help victims of GBV identify what this can look like, but also how to get out of an abusive relationship.

Very often, victims of abuse (whether it be physical or emotional) struggle to leave the abusive relationship. This may be because they do not realise they are victims, or do not know where to get help. Hopefully these posters can provide some assistance to victims and survivors of GBV who may feel helpless.
